AT&T and Jasper Launch Platform

July 27, 2009

In May, AT&T, www.att.com, Dallas, Texas, and Jasper Wireless, www.jasperwireless.com, Sunnyvale, Calif., announced plans to work together on a platform to connect and support emerging devices on AT&T’s network. The platform was designed for a potential new world of connected wireless devices, including consumer electronics and M2M (machine-to-machine).

Now, that platform is commercially available. Called AT&T Control Center, powered by Jasper Wireless, the two companies say it will speed time-to-market for connected devices in areas such as personal navigation, in-car navigation, e-readers, mobile Internet, healthcare, and tracking.

In announcing more of the platform’s features, AT&T and Jasper said it will offer instant activation, usage analytics, design services, and customized rate plans.

Glenn Lurie, president, Emerging Device and Resale, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, says, “We’re streamlining the process by offering a one-stop solution for network provisioning, device activation, customer support, billing options, performance audits, and much more.”

The partnership was spearheaded by AT&T’s emerging devices division, which the company debuted in October 2008. Since then, AT&T has announced a number of projects that connect devices to its network, such as smart meters, patient monitoring devices, and telematics boxes for vehicles. The deal with Jasper should help some of these devices to get on the network more quickly, and perhaps provide a more attractive rate plan.
